Beers for Books Launches in Boston

b4bIf you need an excuse to drink some good beer, the launch of Beers for Books in Boston puts your beer money towards a good cause.

The concept behind Beers for Books events couldn’t be simpler; for every beer you buy at the event, a dollar is donated to Room to Read, a nonprofit that partners with communities in the developing world and establishes libraries, helps to create local language children’s literature, and empower kids through literature. Beers for Books began in Tokyo in early 2009, and while there have been plenty of events in Asia and on the west coast, this is the first time we’ll see B4B here in the northeast.

The Beers for Books launch is this Wednesday (the 7th) at Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square. The event is preceded by a presentation by Room to Read founder John Wood, and the beer-drinkin’ festivities kick off at 6 PM. Along with plenty of great brews to pick from, the event includes a raffle with plenty of prizes, and boasts guest MCs Billy Costa and Jenny Johnson of NECN’s TV Diner.

Unfortunately, some real-world job responsibilities are keeping me from getting down to the event. Hopefully, my readers aren’t all similarly excluded from the event. The first Boston Beers for Books should be a ton of fun, and I encourage you to go and have a few beers for a good cause on Wednesday if you can make it.

After the jump, I’ve included all the info about the event in the official press release from the planners.

The Boston Chapter of Room to Read is organizing its first ever Beers for Books fundraiser at Tommy Doyle’s on Harvard Square, a perfectly appropriate location for celebrating expanding literacy while enjoying tasty food and drink with friendly people.
